This is a rare and unusual pair of cast iron candlesticks made in a gothic style, probably neo-Gothic period, late 19th century. Each piece is stamped on the underside with “Geschutzt” with a stylized “JP” maker’s mark - Geschutzt is a legal term used in Germany to designate that the design is legally protected. Each piece has two candle cups, the rim of each stamped with a Greek Key design. The shape of each is cross-like, with “balls” placed under each candle cup, one at the crossbar and one between the crossbar and the base. There is a chain attached to the bottom of each side ball that hooks to the opposite side of the crossbar. The base, candle holder plates and ball shapes are all pressed with a scalar pattern. There is a ring at the top middle that allows one to carry the pieces more easily. Each piece measures 9 3/8” across at the crossbar and 10 3/4” in height at the ring. Together, the pair weighs 2.075 kilos (a little over 4.5 lbs). They are both in very good condition with original patina. In addition to the actual shipping cost, I do charge a $4.00 handling fee to help offset the cost of this special US service and new packaging for this piece. Please note that even with the handling fee that it is less expensive and is a quicker service than using Canada Post.
