Magnificent solid mahogany antique hand-carved sofa. This Louis Philippe neoclassical designed sofa was expertly crafted circa 1860 in Denmark. All wood is solid mahogany with craftsman type joints. The polished original glossy finish shows nicely with only minor mars and wear. It has been reupholstered in a velvet-like material and offers firm, full suspension seating. I have a certificate placing its value at $3500.

The Louis Philippe style of furniture is derived from a nineteenth century French style. It takes its name from the monarch who reigned from 1830 to 1848. The simple, softly rounded lines with very little ornamentation, and darker woods such as mahogany, palissandre and walnut are its distinctive features. This beautifully styled sofa will compliment any decor.
