...This is a VERY RARE Antique / Vintage circa 1930s - 40s Shipyard Builders Concept Model of an Art Deco Ocean Liner...It has a very unique provenance as it was designed by Norman Bel Geddes as a ship to be built by and named for Henry J Kaiser as the SS Henry J Kaiser and it is very similar to the 1932 Bel Geddes Whale Liner ship design...These men are two icons of their respective professions...Bel Geddes and Kaiser collaborated on possible modern home design and other projects in the 1930s and 40s...Kaiser is a well known industrialist , especially as a Bay Area ship builder known as the \'\"Father of Modern American Shipbuilding\" building many WWII ships such as aircraft carriers and Liberty ships incorporating many new designs...He was also the founder of The Kaiser Permanente Health Care Co. , the Kaiser - Frazer Auto Company, Kaiser Aluminum, and much more...Bel Geddes was one of the leading Modern and Art Deco Industrial designers with many designs found in collections and museums today...This model is LARGE measuring overall 60 inches long on the steel base, with a heavy wooden hull measuring 55 inches long...It has wood, metal, and plastic construction including clear windows that are illuminated via a light inside (see pics)...Its design is very modern and it really looks great...It is in good condition with some crackling to the paint mainly on the elegantly curved stern area...Paint is very secure...It was displayed in the office of a lawyer that represented the Kaiser family for many many years before recently becoming available for sale...The only other example of a Norman Bel Geddes designed ship model I have seen was displayed at the New York Worlds Fair...It looks to have at one time had a glass arched cover that was under the curved hoops to cover the model...It has a brass shipyard builders tag with all the specs of the ship design mounted to the base on the port side...Overall what you have here is a very beautiful and unusual antique designer and ship builder model with a provenance that places it in a very unique place in design, nautical , and Bay Area history...Certainly a collector centerpiece...I WILL SHIP WORLDWIDE...Buyer Pays Shipping.
