A magnificent signed (L. F. Muhlinghaus) original European antique masterpiece that perfectly captures the essence of romantic rural life in what appears to be the Scottish countryside in the 18th or 19th Century. Just look at the expressions on the faces of the shepherdess and the animals! The painting measures about 32 x 24 inches and has a lacquer covering of some sort that was applied over the canvas. You will note significant condition issues in the photographs, including craquelure, considerable soiling, and general wear and tear over the years. In spite of these issues, the painting is a treasure and could be restored to its full glory by a professional art restoration expert. This painting was found from a Palm Spring estate along with another similar painting by the same artist featuring a handsome shepherd and beautiful shepherdess with a child and oodles and oodles of woolly sheep. The two paintings should be kept together and we are happy now to be able to offer the pair at a discounted price of $ 3,500 for both!
