Rare and large one-of-a-kind French Dore, gold gilt or gilding, Bronze candlesticks, a matching and complementing pair, dating to the first half of the nineteenth century. The casting is great, in the finest French tradition, with great and precise detail. They are a tall 15 inches, and the oval bases are 5.5 inches long by 3/5 inches. Upon closer examination, you can see that the threads are hand cut and so are the nuts on the bottom. Each candlestick breaks down into 5 parts and all the threads are tight. Overall condition is excellent, with some wear to the gilding, as one might expect given their age. But please carefully examine the photos to make your own determination as to condition and appearance. Among the finest of serpent theme candlesticks that I have seen.
