Antique Parian Ware Porcelain Greek Nude Female Figurine Andromeda:
$175.00

This sale is for a white porcelain bisque figurine of Andromeda chained to a rock. The figurine is mounted on a ornate brass base with a beveled mirror attached. Nice way to see both sides of the figurine. I do not know if it is marked on the bottom, I do not want to remove it from the base. I believe the statue is Parian ware, could be German or English.Really nice detail. Andromeda was a princess in Greek mythology, daughter of King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia. Cassiopeia offended the gods and the God Poseidon sent a sea monster to ravage the lands of Aethiopia. After consulting an oracle, the king and queen chained Andromeda to a rock, in order to be sacrificed to the monster. However, Perseus fell in love with Andromeda and saved her. The statue with base and mirror, overall, measures approximately 10-1/4\" tall, 3-3/4\" wide, 3-3/4\" deep. The base is weighted and overall the statue weighs 2 pounds 8 ounces. The porcelain is in great shape, no chips cracks or repairs. The brass is tarnished. The mirror has some places where the silver backing has deteriorated. The mirror glass has no chips cracks or repairs. This is an \"As-Is\" sale so please see all photos and feel free to ask questions.
