0653 Persian Scribes Box

Description

A 19th century Persian papier mache scribes box (Qalamdan). It features a black ground and is painted with two seated characters with patterns to either side. To the sides are painted with stylised flowers. The box slides apart to reveal the compartment as is usual for these items. The interior is plain black.

Condition

The lacquer has aged in places causing a surface texture which hides some of the clarity of the paint below. There is some wear to the paint along with aging. There are some minor losses of the paint in places and where the seems of the box have parted a little over time. The pictures give a pretty good sense of the overall condition.Approx Dimensions
