0910 Persian Silver & Enamel Box

Description

A superb Persian silver lidded box. It it chased in the traditional style with intricate patterns of leaves along with birds. The star of the show is the hand enamelled Minakari panel featuring a bridge and a river with trees and fine detailed patterns surrounding it. The box has a hinged lid which opens lengthways. It could perhaps be for writing equipment or cigarettes originally. It would certainly now make a fine desk or dresser box, or perhaps used for fine jewellery if you line the base with velvet. To the interior it has the Persian mark for silver of 84% purity which is the normal standard for this region. There is a further mark which I have been unable to translate. The box stands on four round feet. A truly beautiful piece of Persian artisanship.
