Up for offer is an antique print etching, titled "The Last Hope", featuring a rabbit being chased by a group of hunting dogs. The content is great, with 3 hunting dogs crossing a plank over a creek, chasing the speedy rabbit, and they have it within reach. One dog isswimming thecreek to make his way. Thus, the rabbit is on its "Last Hope" of escape, I suppose. Any hunterwould love this picture! On a heavy paper the whole piece measures 7 3/8" x 11 3/4", with the actual print 5 1/2" x 8". Just below the print on the bottom left is "H Ronner Pinx" (origina painter of this) and on the bottom right "P Moran, SC" (etching artist). The title is centered below it. Written in pencil on the right side edge is what looks like Flesche. This piece has light staining, and a ripple as pictured, and a very minimal crease at that point, with expected edge wear. But this still has life in it. The back has handwritten initials BKH on it. There is a piece ofbrown paper tape across the top as well. If matted and framed, this print will still display nicely andlay flat when doneso, hiding the worn edges.I found this amonga box of antique cabinet photos lot I acquired from an estate sale, all dated very early 1900's and before. I found the following information that seems to fit this...
Peter Moran (American, 1841-1914) After the painting by Henriette Ronner (Dutch, 1812-1909). Late 19th Century, etching on paper, titled The Last Hope., inscribed H. Ronner PINX / P. Moran, SC. at lower margin, 5.5 x 8 in. (plate)
