French or Belgian, not sure. On the striker part of the piece is a rough circle of striking paper. I guess you wouldreplace it when it\'s worn. Kind of cool. Below it, ingreen,French, script are the words, \"Cigareset Allumettes\" or,in English, cigars and matches. Base has the wordsVICTOR DE SCHREYE and GRAMMONT SYSTEME BREVETE. Google translated the last three and got \"gramaphone patented system. Hmmm. Maybe an advertisiment for the company.
