Antique R.Merkelbach Jugendstil/Art Nouveau Beer Stein #3501 by Paul Neu c.1920s

Description: This very interesting German beer stein was manufactured by Reinhold Merkelbach - the most famous manufacturer of Jugendstil beer steins and other ceramics. The artists who worked for R.Merkelbach included R.Riemerschmid, P.Wynand and other famous designers and art professors of Art Nouveau/Jugendstil era.

This particular stein was made in early 1920s, it is late Jugendstil style close to Art Deco. It has the signatuire R.Merkelbach brown glaze - so-called \"Koelnisch braun\" and relief stylized picture of a deer. It was created by Paul Neu - a prominent Jugendstil designer who worked for Merkelbach in late 1910s - early 1920s. The lid is pewter with a specific thumblift used by Merkelbach in 1920s. It is engraved with a presentation inscription indicated it was a gift for someone\'s 70th Birthday from a \"Frytigklub\" or Friday Club.

The stein is in excellent flawless condition - there is no damage or repairs. The stein is marked with R.Merkelbach manufacturer\'s mark used in 1916 to 1936 and the model number 3501.
The stein is 6\" tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Reference#: Condition: Excellent Year: 1905 Country: Germany Height:6 in Materials: Stoneware
