DollDetails:

This week we have the rarest of the rare- an extraordinarily hard to find Trego girl- just darling!

First, a bit of background: just after WWI, a group of German dollmakers immigrated to the US, and Trego dollmaking began. Without the resources to make porcelain heads as they had in Germany, and given that \'unbreakable\' composition was all the rage right after the war, a doll with the look and features of a more expensive German bisque was crafted. As you can see, the head looks just like a bisque, but is made of heavy and quite fine composition. A beauty! Alas, Trego, while popular with East Coast distributors, went out of business in just three short years, and so these dolls are exceedingly difficult to find- in any condition.

This particular child is in good condition for her age, with her original body and head, but she has had some light repairs over the years. Her head has had a light paint overwash, probably due to paint flaking, and the cheeks in particular are repainted, thought the lashes, lips, teeth, and eyebrows are the originals. The fixed eyes are more recent replacements, but as most Tregos had brown rather than blue eyes, the restorer was really paying attention! We think the hands may be later, though still antique replacements; these too are repainted. And the body has been professionally restored, a good, smooth job; there is a small area of paint damage to the torso, probably from a doll stand.

This is a nice cabinet sized girl, with a serene face, quite finely and delicately modeled, and though she has repaint, there are no chips or cracks to head or hands. She wears a really fine modern wig with lots of curls- so very fancy, and quite like the wig she would have worn originally. Some dust anddirt to crevices as to be expected.

CostumeDetails:

Dress: Vintage artist made fancy French style frock with great little lace and trim details; fabric is quite stiff, and there is a small area of glue on the front where there was probably once a bow, c1960s-70s era; some slight age staining

Stockings: older doll socks, c1960s

Shoes: older patent leather doll shoes, c1960s

Allin all, a lovely and very-very-very rare Trego child- who is all dressed up for an afternoon\'s promenade!

Kindly Take a Moment and Read This Before offerding:

Marionettejilly is not a big ol\' corporation. We are actually pretty nice folks, with an interest in antiques, fighting upstream against inflation and the economy just like everyone else. In the rare event that there is a problem with an item, just sit back, take a deep breath, and tell us about it calmly. We have not set out to scam you. Chill. All the policies below are just because a couple of folks in the past decided to be meanies. We know you\'re not like that- we certainly aren\'t.

Here at Marionettejilly, we try to be accurate with our descriptions- but we aren’t perfect, and we may have missed something that’s important to you-- so ask before an sale ends! We sell mostly vintage and antique items, with wear and the ravages of time as to be expected.

Do not expect our vintage items to be in new or like new condition- many of our items are fragile, played with, and many are over 100 years old.

AND---- many of our items have been in storage for years,so if you are allergic to dust, or sensitive to certain scents or smells, we do not recommend purchasing vintage items.Use your own good common sense, and expect an item to have a unique patina and history all its own- with imperfections inherent in antique pieces!

Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 10am to 5 pm, Eastern Standard Time. We cannot answer emails unless they come through the message system- this protects both parties. Emails received after these hours will be answered as promptly as is possible on the next business day. Please do not expect a response during the weekend- with any luck we are out doing something fun, far far away from the computer!

Quick, Now! Read Our Refund Policy BEFORE You offer:

If you are unhappy with any item for any reason, it may of course be returned for a full refund of purchase price and original shipping within fourteen days of original shipping date, minus a standard 15% restocking fee, unless the item is one of the few we designate as a \'No Returns\' item. Please note International returns are for purchase price only.

We do not pay return shipping regardless of the reason for return.

Forgive us if we sound somewhat exasperated at this point in time, but just so there is no possible misunderstanding of our policy, we repeat:

We do not pay return shippingregardless of the reason for return.

does not support buyers\' requests for return shipping- please do not ask.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT OFFER PARTIAL REFUNDS FOR ANY REASON.

There are no exceptions to this policy, and we will report unscrupulous buyers.

Our shipping represents not only postage but also time, gas, packing materials, and, as of July 2011, the 7.5% Final Value Fee that charges to shipping. We do flat rate shipping so that buyers know in advance what shipping will be before a offer is placed; please be aware that we do not barter about shipping once an item has ended.

We ship most items anywhere in the world, and yes, we will combine shipping on multiple wins.Combined sales, no matter how small, are a minimum of an additional $1.00 per added sale, for up to four small items; in the case of larger items, such as dolls, shipping will be adjusted according to weight of the total package.

Payment Terms:Payment is due within 5 days of end of sale.

And, as a final note to the patient people who have bothered to read everything so far: Sorry if we sound crabby. Sometimes people can be so petty and unreasonable it can break your heart. We\'ve had a run of rather awful experiences this season- let\'s hope it ends soon, before we lose the rest of our hair, our jolly perspective on life in general, and our much-needed sense of humor!!!
