This beautiful flat backed pitcher is a Royal Worcester piece made in 1887 based on the Y production year mark on the bottom. The piece has a soft creamy exterior glaze that is literally used as a canvas for the amazingly realistically painted flowers that seem to pop off of the surface. The brilliant colors of the botanicals are given even more dimension by the gold paint used to pick out the details. The fluted handle, the foot, and the rim are all gilded. You can see the red under color peeking through the gold on the handle. The red base is used to give a richness and depth that the gold would not have if applied to the cream colored glaze.The inside of the pitcher is covered with a shiny cream colored glaze that contrasts with the gilding and the matte of the exterior glaze.The bottom of piece has the Royal Worcester mark along with the shape number 1094 and registration number 29115.The pitcher is a bit over 5 ½” tall, 3 ¼” front to back (not including the handle, and slightly over 3 1/5” wide. It is in amazing condition for its age, with no damage that I can find. I am going to say that there is a small amount of paint loss, really almost exclusively in the gold.Shipping includes insurance, though coverage will beimpacted by US Postal Service policy.
