Welcome to Country Artifacts, estate asset liquidators.

Antique Ruby Ambrotype by S.F.(Seth Franklin) Sterlin, Woodstock Vermont, c.1863

Product Details:

  • Antique Ruby Ambrotype (see pictureof light coming through the back)
  • Stamped in the brass on the lower left: AMBROTYPE PAT.
  • Stamped in the brass on the lower right:S.F.STERLIN and M.McINTOSH
  • Seth Franklin Sterlin was a photographer inWoodstock Vermont until 1869. Based on research, he advertised Ambrotype photography about 1863.
  • I am not sure about M.McIntosh, but I did find an M.R. McIntosh and R.M. McIntosh, both photographers practicing in Northfield Vermont at about the same time.
  • This is a 1/9th plate, measuring 2-1/2\" high x 2\" high, framed in brass, with no case.
  • The image is of a distinguished gentleman.
  • This item came to us from a local estate (Proctorsville, Vermont). It has minor tarnish to the brass frame and a small scratch to the glass as shown, but is otherwise very nice. The image is very clear in my opinion.
