This is a fine hand thrown Antique Stoneware Jug from about 1880 to1910.
Larry Roberts, a Southern pottery and Taino artifact expert and writer saw it,
thought it was an Alabama potter, but could not remember his name.
It is 9 1/4\" tall and 7 5/8\" wide, with a 5 1/2\" long handle, the spout is 1 1/8\" wide inside.
It holds 18 cups or 1 gallon and 2 cups, a very old dark cork is still inside it.
The thick, colored Ash andSalt drip deposits on the handle and near the neck have dark crazing, which gives it a good natural decoration.
It is in very good condition.
There is an original shallow firing crater from an air bubble 1/8\" wide, 1 1/2\" from the neck, also a 1/2\" long, original, shallow narrow indentation about halfway down below the ash deposits, shown in the first photo.
Covered with a beautiful orange peal texture.
Insurance is included with shipping.
