ANTIQUE SAMPSON MORDAN 1905 SHEFFIELD SILVER NOVELTY FIGURAL BIRD PIN CUSHION:

This is an antique solid silver novelty figural pin cushion which stands 1 1/2 inches high, measures 2 1/4 inches long and weighs 17.7 grams. This silver pin cushion is in the more unusual figural shape of a bird - not the more common shape of a hatching chick - and on the base you can see the British silver hallmarks for Sheffield, the date letter for 1905 together with the silversmith\'s initials \"SM & Co \" for Sampson Mordan & Company. Sampson Mordan was an extremely prestigious maker of quality silver items such as this bird pin cushion which is realistically modelled with great attention to detail especially on the feathers and around the eyes - all still clearly visible. On the back you can see the original pin cushion fabric which is still intact with no tears but over time it has faded. Please note there is a small stray piece of fluff on the back in a couple of photos which has since been removed!!. The condition is good with no splits, cracks, damage or repairs to be found but there are some tiny signs of wear as is to be expected through age and use but nothing too serious or detracts in any way. Please excuse any photo flashes or reflections. This antique 1905 Sheffield silver novelty pin cushion, made by Sampson Mordan and Co. in the more unusual shape of a bird, would make an ideal gift or a great addition to any collection.
