Rare Antique Sandwich Glass, Pressed \"Acanthus Leaf and Shield\" Lidded Sugar Bowl, The Boston and Sandwich Glass Company, Sandwich, Massachusetts, c. 1835 - 1850. The sugar bowl is a beautiful flint glass example that rings wonderfully when \"dinged\" with a finger. This covered sugar was manufactured by The Boston and Sandwich Glass Company, from 1840-60. The sugar has an attractive raised or embossed acanthus leaf design on both the bowl and the lid. This design alternates with a shield and diamond pattern on every other panel on the base. A flint glass lidded sugar bowl in this pattern is listed in \"A Guide To Sandwich Glass - Pressed Tableware, by Barlow and Kaiser, plate #1040, where it booked for $500.
