Fresh from a Gowanda NY Estate, a Great, Vintage, Iroquois Snow Snake. This is a smaller variety called a \" Mudcat \", this example measures a little over 36 inches and has a warm and smooth finish from it\'s construction, age and use. Lead or pewter inlayed for weight, the shaft bears a geometric signature of the carver and a pictograph of a snake, that is further enhanced with dotted lines around it\'s curves to donate movement. Both signature and design are burned into the wood. The graft also retains the remnants of the owner\'s particular recipe for \"grease\" to enhance speed and distance when the Snake was thrown. These items were used in a Wintertime sport were logs were dragged through the snow to produce a trough, which when frozen became the track for the Snowsnakes to be thrown.
