Antique Silverplate Egg Coddler aka Egg Burner
9\" tall x 4.5\" diameter of the body of the Coddler
4.25\" base diameter.
By William Hutton and Sons
circa 1864 to 1899.

Mr Hutton first opened business in 1800 in Birmingham but moved to Sheffield in 1832.
The firm was transformed in William Hutton & Sons in 1864 and William Hutton & Sons Ltd from 1893 to 1930. The cross arrows were supposedly added sometime in the 1890\'s but I could not find a lot of information about that part of the hallmark.

Hallmarked WH & SBP (William Hutton and Sons and I think BP is Brittania Plate) There is an A-1 in a rectangle with blunted corners.
Also the words \"Cross Arrow\" have the crossed arrow symbol separating them.
\"Hard Soldered 25798\" are below the Hutton mark.
The number \".3\" is shown above all these elements. My research showed that is the amount of silver in the metal. I suppose that would mean 30% but I do not know for sure.
The numbers 7/253077 are engraved by hand over to the side.
All of this can be seen in the photo directly above.

The spirit burner is shown below. It provided the flame to cook the eggs.

Unusual turned wood handle.

This view shows the inside of the top.

The inside of the bottom part is the only place I see any kind of wear or pitting. The very bottom has light pitting as can be seen in the photo.

Good antique condition. Comes with its original burner. Very little wear....I actually don\'t see any but there may be some that I overlooked. There is a small amount of pitting inside the bowl where the water would have been. Please see the photo of this in the description. It\'s ready to use as is.
