Antique Silver Travelling Beaker Made by EDWARD BARNARD & SONS LTD (worked from c.1910)
Please scroll down for photographs below
An antique sterling silver campaign
folding cup in a fitted leather case. This ingenious flat fold beaker is
made in 3 shaped pieces which concertina up into a watertight cup*.
Finely engraved with arched panels containing beautiful bouquets of
flowers and to the front there is a decorative intertwined monogram.
Contains 200 ml (first joint - 75 ml).
Weight 162 grams, 5.2 troy ounces. Height 3.5 cms (flat), 9 cms (total). Diameter 6.5 cms (top), 5.5 cms (bottom). All pieces marked. London 1926. Maker Edward Barnard & Sons.
There are another two campaign beakers available, #7034 and #7036 with
almost identical engraving. However they have different sizes, dates
and makers. Possibly these beakers have come from a large set which has
been added to over a large period of time.
*This has been tested with water. Firstly, it's important to assemble the three pieces carefully, then the beaker will hardly leak. There no loss if you fill the beaker lower than the first joint, but above that point there is minimum loss.
