I just bought a portion of a collection of these very rare snuff boxes with silhouettes reverse painted on glass using an eglomise technique ... This is the second of the 4 I am listing ... please take a look at my others as well ..
This sensational snuff box has a hand done silhouette picture of a man riding a horse with the gold backing .. most silhouettes are of individuals ... very rare to find one with a full body image of a horse and rider .. to further enhance its rarity, it was created utilizing genuine tortoise shell .. see the photos of the varying shades when held up to the light...
Look at the exquisite detail to the early silhouette portrait .. the tiniest of details .. you can see the reins in the horseman\'s hand and at the horse\'s mouth ..a few brush strokes gave definition to the ground and grass .. the tail as it flies during the gallop ...
I have left it completely as found - no cleaning of any kind ..

Condition: Very very good for its age ... no cracks to the tortoise shell box - no cracks to the glass ... remnants of an old sticker on the interior ... done during the making and shown are a few wisps of the black ink trailing behind the rider - all done during the process of its creation .. slight deterioration of the black painting on the glass top ... hard to see in the photos and is more visible when turned at certain angles in the light ... old patina from age and use to the tortoise shell box itself ...
All notes as to condition are quite minor and mentioned really for accuracy sake ... it really is a great piece ...
