Theseantiquesilver scissors are Dutch and have solid silver handles. Theshanks are decorated with hand engraved scroll designs as is thematching silver sheath. Bothhave theDutch dagger hallmarks for 833 silver (833/1000 pure) used from1814-1905. The scissors also havethe maker\'s mark for Jan Schijfsma. A silver chain is threadedthrough the bows, probably so they could be attached to a chatelaine.

The steel blades are tight with intact points and they cut well to thetips. The silver has no dents, repairs orother damage. The scissorsmeasure 4\" long and they\'re 4 3/4\" in the sheath. An almost identicalpair is shown on p. 109 (Plate 20) of Kay Sullivan\'sbook Needlework Toolsand Accessories - A Dutch Tradition and she has this maker\'s mark onp. 213.
