Antique Sterling Silver Art Nouveau Bowl William B Kerr USA made 1890\'s:
$395.00
A lovely antique bowl, serving or candy dish. By William B Kerr and Co. Founded in 1855 in Newark, New Jersey, as Kerr and Thiery, it changed names to William B Kerr and Company in 1880 and made beautiful sterling silver until 1927, when they merged with Gorham.William B Kerr is well regarded for its Art Nouveau sterling silver items. Their Hallmark was a single-bit axe, with rods bound with straps called a \"fasces\" (a midieval axe). They used this trademark from 1855 - 1892. Other hallmarks include a hammer and three \"X\" marks (signifying the straps).
- This silver bowl is from the 1890\'s and is in good usable or display condition. For accuracy, it has a small dent on the outer rim (see photo #2, located about 3 o\'clock position). There are a couple of tiny pin-size dents on the underside (see photo #7).
- A beautiful representation of the Art Nouveau period, it measures 11 1/4\" long, 8\" wide and 2\" tall at the highest point.
- Design number 252, shown on the bottom, as is the Axe Trademark and Sterling Hallmark. There are two other marks that I cannot determine, even through a loupe.
