This is a lovely, antique, sterling silver spoon. It is clearly marked Sterling and made by the F. A. Whelan Silver Co.
I did not polish this spoon.
FRONTWhere the bowl & stem meet there is a shield, a crown and a swan.As you go up the stem, there is a cross, the Masonic square and compass, a tent, 3 flowers and another cross.BACKThe Shriners Symbol of the crescent and the scimitar are where the bowl and stem meet.Above this is George Washington.On the stem are the years - 1732-1799, the words - Sterling - and F. A. Whelan.Next, there is a cross in the handle of the sword.The top of the handle has a knight\'s helmet.
This spoon is part of a large collection that has been in our family for many, many years - many well over 100 years. Both my Mother, Grandmother & Great Grandmother collected antique spoons wherever they traveled. They have been sitting in a box for years and it is time to share them with others.

My pictures do not do this sterling silver spoon justice. The quality is amazing. It is lovely!

The engraving and silver work are stunning.

I do not do returns unless I have made a huge mistake in the description. I am trying to pare down and clean out. This is why I don\'t do returns. So please, carefully consider the size and appearance of this item before you offer.

Why am I selling some of my collections? I started collecting things when I was 12 years old, following in my Mother\'s footsteps & guided by her. Now that I am retired, it is time to pare down these collections. It is a waste for all these items to sit and not be enjoyed.

While my husband is cleaning out his salesman\'s samples from his collegiate business, I am cleaning out my closets and paring down my collections of clothing, jewelry, antiques and glassware.
