A fine, Blue & White sponge-decorated Stoneware Pitcher, 1-Gallon capacity, probably Midwestern US origin, ca.1890-1910. Unusual bulbous form with straight collar, pinched pouring spout and applied handle with extended upper thumb rest. Decorated with a wonderful, tight blue sponging on the body, handle and inner rim. After a considerable amount of research, I believe this example is quite rare. In fact, I have only seen one with matching form and handle style (but different sponging pattern). See item 331626603221 ($299.99) for the comparison. I will update the listing if a particular maker can be identified and confirmed.

Condition: A shallow base chip (see close-up, photo #12); otherwise Excellent. Inherent glaze variation and surface imperfections noted for descriptive accuracy. Fine, age-appropriate crazing on the glaze surface noted throughout (see close-ups). No cracks, repaired damage or other excuses. Displays brilliantly with strong, vibrant color; this Spongeware Pitcher will not disappoint. See photos for complete details and please consider them as part of the description. Measures 8-1/2\"W x 8-3/4\"H overall, including the handle. The base, body and rim diameters are approximately 5-3/8\", 7\" and 4-3/8\", relatively heavy at 4lb 14oz.
