Here we have a very desirable, high quality example of Black Forest wood carving probably produced in Brienz, Switzerland in the late 19th C. This superb swing mirror, toilet or vanity mirror is beautifully hand carved with lots of detail, inc. ferns, oak and ivy leaves and acorns. The frame and base of the mirror are naturalistically carved.The mirror has bevelled glass that has age related silvering. The mirror stands approx 17 in. high and is is 11 in. wide at the widest point. It weighs 1283 g unpacked so would need to go via a courier service to overseas locations. However, the mirror displays very well and is rare and highly decorative. Description Here we have avery desirable, high quality example of Black Forest wood carving probablyproduced in Brienz,Switzerland in the late 19th Century. Brienz was a centre of production for wood carving and this was probably made for the tourist market and brought back to England by a Victorian visitor making the Grand Tour of Europe.This superb swing mirror or toilet /vanity mirror has been beautifully hand carved and has lots of detail, featuring ferns, oakleaves and acorns and ivy leaves. The frame and base of the mirror are naturalistically carved and even the little pegs holding the mirror in place are carved to resemble seed heads or nuts.The mirror has bevelled glass and there is age related silvering to this. The mirror stands approx 17 inches high and is is 11 inches wide at the widest point. It weighs 1283 g unpacked so would need to go via a courier service to overseas locations.
