TECO RINGED CYLINDER VASE #

This listing is yet another rarity and not often seen TECO piece of pottery offered for sale, Original genuine double signed TECO Ribbed Vase # 370 measuring 4” across and 4” in height, was designed by Fritz Albert (1865-1940), it features a ribbed small neck design and is covered in a good green matte glaze with charcoal highlights, circa 1900 in excellent condition with no signs of crazing, chipping, cracking or repairs. Would make an outstanding addition to anyone’s collection. A true collectible undoubtedly rising in value.

Teco (an abbreviation of TErra COtta) art pottery was originally produced from 1899 through 1920 by the American Terra Cotta and Ceramics Company, located in Terra Cotta, Illinois. W. D. Gates, a lawyer by training, founded the company in order to capitalize on the need for architectural terra cotta used in constructing fire-proof buildings following the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. During slower work periods, the company started producing a line of art pottery, becoming famous for their groundbreaking modern designs. There are about 500 different Teco shapes, whose forms can be categorized as architectural, organic or classical. Gates himself designed about half the shapes, with other pieces created by such notable designers as Fritz Albert, William Mundie, Fernand Moreau and Frank Lloyd Wright. The expanding arts and crafts movement and the Prairie School provided Gates an approach to architectural ceramic design and a customer base for Teco pottery. Teco, possibly more so than any other arts and crafts pottery from its time, seems particularly at home in arts and crafts bungalows and houses designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and other Prairie style architects.
