I collected two of these while I was living and working in Thailand in the 1980s. (ยันต์ - 2 has now sold.) Even in Thailand where these are common, it is not easy to find such old ones. This one could easily be older than 1900-1940, but that time period is a reasonable estimate, based on my experience. The script on this one is entirely Kom, not Thai. Kom is an old Khmer script/language and was, and still is, used on items of religious/spiritual significance in Cambodia, Thailand, and Laos. The cloth is very old and fragile (but it is supple, not brittle), and there are a couple of holes and small tears. This very special, and complex, yantra should be framed and mounted behind glass for preservation. Yantras are believed to be magical and to bestow mystical powers, protection, or good luck.
