This Is A Beautiful Wood Pounce Ink Sander. It Is Made Of Turned Treen. I Would Date This Piece To The Late 18th Or Early 19th Century. These Were Used Before Blotters. It Measures 3 Inches Tall, Just Under 3 Inches Wide At The Top And 2 1/2 Inches Wide At The Bottom. They Would Shake Pounce Onto The Wet Ink. Pounce Was A Fine Powder Often Made From Cuttlebone. It Prevented The Ink From Spreading Or To Prepare Parchment Paper For Writing. This One Is In Very Good Condition. Some Of The Felt Padding On The Bottom Has Fallen Off Over The Years. This Was Picked Up In Virginia. Great Piece To Add To Your Early American Collection!!
