Uzbek Flat Weave, Central Asia, 1890 - 1910, approx. 4\' 5\" x 5\' 9\"

A beautifully dyed weaving from Central Asia.
The color combination is quite striking, with a nice clear green, iridescent blue, unfaded yellow, apricot and madder red. Such weavings were made for a variety of uses, including covers for decorative purposes (sometimes associated with dowry function) or as \'bokche\', or covers in which other items, including other textiles and possibly special clothing woudl be stored.
The weave is fine and the handle is very supple. It was probably made to be used to wrap up clothing and/or bedding. It would be very appropriate to be used as a bed spread, or draped over the back of a couch.
The condition is excellent. All the colors are derived from natural dyes.
