First things first.... this will break your heart! Okay, now on to the facts. I believe this very finemicro mosaic to be from the middle or earlier 19th Century. The tesserae are teeny tiny and very few are missing. The mount tests with acid as gold and I have always thought it likely 14-18k? and that\'s why the opening offer is not lower. (but please, don\'t buy just to scrap it)
I have had this masterpiece for decades and have always hoped to find someone capable of repairing the domed damage (heat? or ?water) back to its once flat beauty. I know there is someone out there that can indeed do this intricate work.
Piece measures just under 2\" across by 1-7/16\" high. It will come in the leather case (also as is) that I originally found it in. It\'s been sleeping in its box and hidden away for more than a decade now and I think it\'s time someoneelse loved it as much as I do. Strangely, it feels rather stable and the close-up pictures make it appear worse than it looks in person. I actually displayed it for years inside a small display case on a stand but replaced it with a larger piece and that\'s why I put it away. I guarantee it\'s worth the opening offer for it\'s beauty alone!
