A wonderful example of an antique Crazy quilt,HAND PIECED USING COLORFUL EMBROIDERY STITCHES and using the ladies\' finest scraps of fabric: mostly silk and velvet in irregularly shaped pieces. The quilt is covered with colorful hand embroidered accents including many shapes -owl, rabbit, butterfly, bug, fishes, andfloralswith elaborateTurkey Track stitching around the pieces-almost like an embroidery sampler! Some of the pieces have hand-painted designs. There are initials on some of the pieces but I did not find a date. It measures 70\" x 70\", has gold satin edging and a floral back. The front is knotted to the back with embroidery silk. Like many of the old quilts, there is wear to some of the silks, as some silks will sometimes deteriorate with time. (See the last few photos.) Also there is damage and some stains to the back. A FABULOUS EXAMPLE OF HANDWORK and a STUDY IN VICTORIAN EMBROIDERY !! The best I have ever seen, I purchased at sale years ago.
