This is a magnificent Early ANTIQUE Hand Carved WOOD Very LARGE Statue of a SAMURAI WARRIOR. Although paint is chipped off in areas, there is still much beautiful color and detail to the piece. There is also some cracking in the wood, due to advanced age and wear of the piece. There may have been some small adornment at the very top of the head that is no longer there, as that has a rough edge, as shown. Otherwise the piece is largely intact, which is pleasantly unusual for a piece this old. On the back is a cut out area. I do not know what this opening was used for but it seems this was done purposefully at the time of creation. I have also seen this on other such pieces on . Also the sword comes as a separate piece and fits in under his hand when displayed. Sword measures about 11 inches. The piece has been permanently mounted on a more MODERN SQUARE BASE. The STATUE measures approximately 23 inches tall itself or about 25 inches tall including base. The base is a square 12 inches by 12 inches. Total weight is about 22 pounds.
