This is a beautiful excellent quality antique Victorian sterling silver aesthetic sweetheart brooch. It has a unique \'flower basket\' and rose gold and yellow gold accents. The basket is raised out from the brooch surface and so exquisitely constructed with little hearts. It also has forget-me-not flowers. The brooch has a full set of hallmarks with maker A.J.C., the wheat sheeves for the Chester assay office, the lion for sterling silver, and the date letter I for 1892. The length is 2\" and the pin and C clasp are original and work properly.

In 1887 jewelers in England began to make the so-called silver \'sweetheart\' brooches. These love tokens tapped directly into the romantic and sensitive side of people\'s nature and revived the passion for flowers and messages in jewelry last seen in the early 19th century. All kinds of every day objects suddenly took on a new meaning when fashioned into little brooches - flowers, hearts, anchors, and crosses.
