Painting of Lady Jane Erskine from the 1837. The original painting is located in the Gallery of Beauties in Nymphenburg, Germany. Original Artist: Joseph Karl Stieler
Year Painted: 1837
Born: 9 May 1818 – Died: 30 March 1846Jane Erskine was the gorgeous daughter of the Baron of Erskine, British ambassador to Munich named David Montagu, who had seven daughters. She was one of the most beautiful daughters showing why she was selected to be painted. It was Queen Therese, wife of King Ludwig of Bavaria, introduced her to her husband. The King thought her to be a perfect selection to immortalize in the. The portrait was completed 1837. Not much is known of the lovely Lady Erskine. She died at the tender age of 28 in Scotland on the 30th of March 1846. Lady Jane Erskine sits in her lovely pink fur lined cape. Her hair is perfectly braided into two coils that frame her beautiful face. She wears a wonderful matched pink rose to the side of her face. Her necklace is a stylish pearl on what appears to be a black velvet necklace with a black pearl headband to match. A neoclassical beauty to say the least and probably one if the most popular lady\'s from the Gallery of Beauties. This painting is an original water color painting that reproduces the original from 1837 Stieler portrait. Condition: Excellent condition. Some paint around the edges is starting to separate. I believe that it is painted on ivory wafer or a thick vellum. She is perfectly preserved, and in her original Italian tole gilt frame. The frame is in good condition. It does have some flecks of plaster missing from areas. Has a curved glass plate that goes over the painting. This does have chipping on the sides only to make it fit the frame. This is how it was made. Shows perfectly when in frame. Orignal painting was made by Joseph Karl Stieler (1 November 1781 – 9 April 1858) a German painter commissioned to paint for the Bavarian Kings of the Royal Court from 1820 until 1855. He is known for his Neoclassical portraits, especially for the Gallery of Beauties at Nymphenburg Palace in Munich.Payment:We only accept PayPal payment is due immediately if the Buy It Now option is offered or within 2 days of the sale ending.
