He had shops in both New Hampshire & Massachussetts during his career.

Description:

This cute Victorian whimsy belongedto Joanna \"Joie\" (Ware) Washburn originally from Hancock, NH. It is made from both sides of a pretty scalloped sea shell, hinged at the base with hand stitched thread & a pink silk ribbon. Inside the shell are two small German bisque child dolls wearing lovely baby christening dresses. Both dolls are laying in a soft tufted bed of dyed pink silk fibers that resemble cotton candy. The bisque dolls have hand painted hair & facial features, & their christening dresses are made from Victorian white cotton organdy with lace trim at the bases. One arm is broken cleanly & missing off one of the dolls, otherwise no damage & everything inside the shells is perfect like a time capsule. The missing arm really does not detract much as it is not really that noticeable that anything is missing when you look inside at the dolls. There is an original piece of knotted string extending through two small holes at tops of shells which keeps them from opening too far. Each bisque doll measures 1\" (inch) tall. Shell measures 2 1/4\" X 2 1/2\".

Such things were sold at seaside & lake resorts during the Victorian era. This one could also represent the birth of twins. No cracks or breaks to shell, pink silk tufts flawless & still poofy, white christening dresses still like new, paint flawless on dolls, no odors - smoke free.

Overall Excellent
