Unique and rare Victorian Mantelet or cloak/jacket. This is black not grey. Very nice piece and very wearable. Has some issues for age, such as faded trim, missing wooden beads and the cord they hang from. Some have no fabric covering anymore, and some are coming off. They could be painted and poss dyed. The inside needs some restitching and the lining needs to be replaced as it is tattered. The collars lining is also pretty much gone. Basically, the inside needs alittle love. Nothing that cannot be done by hand. Or if you do not want a liner this piece does not really need one. This feels like possibley a taffeta or blend and has a sturdy shell. Has all its 11hook and eye closures, with only one hook missing. They do show their age as some are rusting abit. They can easily be replaced (a few need some securing). There are no tears or holes on the outter shell. Once the lining is removed there maybe some pin holes or tiny spot that you could see through. The seams in the back are pulling in 3 spots. It looks like one part of the back folds for the bustle needs to be re-ironed in. The seams could be restitched by hand if needed as well. The inside sections the arm goes through are starting to come unattached and the bands inside need stabilizing/reattaching, again can be done by hand. Measures approx 42\" long from center front at the top of the collar to end of trim, and approx 46\" to end of fringe. The back is approx 25\" from center top to base of trim and approx 28\" to end of fringe. The shoulder was measured on this mannequin, so it maybe slightly off when actually worn. From the shoulder seam straight down is approx 23\" and approx 26\" to end of fringe. This could be redyed if you want to refresh the trim. I would not advise RIT as it is not colorfast.
