an extraordinary sample of John Redfern\'s special occasion dresses!
The famous english dressmaker was named Queen Victoria\'s and Princess of Wales dressmaker in 1888
and the woven label of this extravagant corsage has the coat of arms of the Queen as well as the feathers of the Prince of Wales.
REDFERN was more famous in his beginning for the creation of most elegant sporting outfits for ladies in this end of 19th century where they began to access many sportive activities. As soon as installed also in Paris and New York (5th avenue) his most elegant evening and special occasions gowns and dresses rivalised with Worth and the other great
Couturiers.
This (possibly wedding gown) corsage has the huge sleeves in fashion at the very end of the 19th century.
To get this result, an amazing work has been realized underneath the silk satin puffs (unfortunately impossible to show
in pictures) but to resume: divided, stitched in puffed slices like a peeled orange.
the neck and waistband have been embroidered with applied silver trim.
The lace trimming, the collar, sleeves and yoke are made of the best handmade Brussels. Every detail is of highest quality, even the work invested in the lining is fantastic.
The bodice is very clean and seems scarcely worn. But in spite of that it is not perfect but damaged: The top of the huge sleeves have several age related breaks shown in the pictures. The yoke has also vertical breaks, well hidden in the folds. The silk lining has shattered spots. It is fragile and will have to be shipped well stuffed in a huge box. It can not be worn and should only be considered as a museum piece for display or reproduction.
For display you will need a size 8 dressform. The lace of the collar is not stiff any more and has been held up with a pin for the pictures.

I charge no packing or handling fees and I use recycled wrappings and boxes as far as possible. Indicated shipping price is an estimation. If after packing there is a difference, I refund the exceeding amount, if I underestimated, the difference is for me. Except snow-storm or car-problem I send the day following payment.
Please be aware that whatever I\'m listing, (mostly fabric, materials, costume pieces, lace and accessoires to repair) it can sometimes be in good condition but it is NEVER NEW from a shop shelf!!!! (so signs of a former life are often noticeable unless they are described clearly as VGC or AS NEW)
