Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Blk Enamel Pearl Crescent Mourning Brooch Pin:
$135.00
Description: This gorgeous piece combines two things I love in jewelry: mourning and a crescent moon. This fabulous, little brooch is composed of a sterling silver crescent moon that has a black enamel front with three split pearls embedded and an engraved, floral and leaf, scroll design. It fastens in the back with a c-catch type clasp. It’s a smaller size so it’s not too heavy. It\'s a charming piece that I was tempted to keep for myself, but you go for it!
Background: This piece was most likely worn during mourning during the Victorian Era (1837-1901) when mourning jewelry was at its peak during the 1860s-1880s.
Materials: Sterling silver that is not marked but has been tested, split pearls, black enamel.
Measurements: 1/18\' in length and width. 1/8\" depth not including the pin back.
Weight: 4.8 grams
Date estimate: c. 1860s-1880s.
Origin: European
Condition: Good, antique condition with wear in keeping with age and use. A bit of wear to the enamel at the ends, but this is mainly only noticeable with magnification.
