A stunning Victorian period piece of simply the finest in cabinet work, a stunningly beautiful coromandel desk top stationary cabinet of large proportions with a exquisite natural wood grain. The twin lids open to a fully fitted interior in beautiful satinwood, consisting of compartments for ink wells, pens, wax sticks and accessories finished off with paper filing compartments shaped with stylish curves over single slide out drawer. The upper section opens to allow access to the inner compartment and bears the original inset ivorine makers mark for \"Alex\'r Jones & Co 154 Regents St W\"

During the reign of Queen Victoria, Coromandel was considered one of the most exotic, luxurious and expensive woods to work with and it was the veneer of choice for some of the finest boxes.

Coromandel wood was sourced from India and South East Asia and was an incredibly dense, close-grained wood. Visually a more vibrant and figured (patterned) variety from the Ebony family, the actual species of Coromandel became virtually extinct by the beginning of the 20th century. Today, the nearest relation to Coromandel is Macassar Ebony.

This really is a fine piece of furniture which would fantastic in both a period room or contemporary home.
