Antique Victorian walking suit bustle dress circa 1880
Dress is a 2 piece construction with a long jacket and skirt
It is fashioned of a cream cotton twill with floral embroidery and pleating at the sleeve edges and on the skirting
This dress has a button front closure with hook and eye also on the jacket
The skirt has a rear hook and eye closure
The dress is unlined, and has French seam finishes on the inside.
The condition is excellent to age. The dress is strong and wearable.
There is no staining or deterioration on this dress. There are a couple of minor pulls to the twill on the jacket, not noticeable. There are a couple of open seams along the trim on the skirting. They only need to be stitched closed. There is a major period repair under the pleating on the skirt; it is a tear that was darned closed. I am impressed with the scope and patience of this repair and how it held up. It is not visible when worn. Some surface dirt is on the bottom ruffle from floor drag.
