The Art Deco era is famous for being the \"Gatsby\" or \"Roaring Twenties\" era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. Jewelry from this period was most often crafted between 1920 and 1940. Art Deco jewelry sometimes featured white gold or platinum, geometric designs, European cut diamonds, filigree, and calibre cut stones that are specifically cut to fit the design of the piece. During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.
The interest in Egyptian motifs began in the late 1700s, when Napoleon’s military campaign in Northern Africa helped popularize fine jewelry featuring exotic aesthetics. The British fell in love with Egyptian styling after Admiral Nelson’s victory at the Battle of the Nile in 1798, and soon, wealthy women across Europe were wearing Egyptian-inspired pieces. The demand for Egyptian designs boomed again in the 1920s, after the discovery of King Tutankhamen\'s tomb in 1922. Not only was Egyptian Revival jewelry associated with ancient opulence, it held the allure of exotic and mysterious symbols. Egyptian Revival designs were often pulled directly from Egyptian amulets; common motifs included the Eye of Horus for healing and protection, scarabs and lotus flowers for creation and life, and the Ankh symbolizing eternal life.
Tiger\'s Eye is a beautiful stone that is from the quartz family of stones. It is famous for its beautiful wavy iridescent appearance. It is called Tiger\'s Eye due to the appearance of a line of light through the center of the stone that moves when the light hits it. This is called chatoyancy and the stone must be carefully polished to achieve this effect.
Chatoyancy comes from the French phrase \"œil de chat\", meaning \"cat\'s eye”. In gemology, chatoyancy is that luminous sheen caused when a band of reflected light moves just below the surface of a cabochon-cut gemstone, like the sheen off a spool of silk. Cat’s Eye Chrysoberyl and Tiger’s Eye are the stones best known to exhibit this phenomenon.
Onyx is a chalcedony quartz gemstone that is found all over the world. It usually has a fine texture and black color; however, some onyx also displays colored bands or ribbons against a black or brown background. Red onyx is quite rare and desirable and is also known as sardonyx. Onyx that has a deep green shade is known as Brazilian green onyx and is very rare. It became a popular stone for sculpture and jewelry in the 1920s and 1930s. The name comes from the Greek word onyx which means nail of a finger or claw. Legend says that one day while Venus was sleeping, Eros/Cupid cut her fingernails and left the clippings scattered on the ground. Because no part of a heavenly body can die, the gods turned them into stone which later became known as onyx.
People in the earliest recorded times believed in the magical powers of quartz; Ancient Roman, Egyptian, and Greek civilizations used quartz crystals as potent talismans. Rose quartz has a soft pink hue with wisps of cloud-like inclusions, and is also called the heart stone. It has been used as a love token as early as 600 BC, and the Romans and Egyptians believed it could prevent aging. Rose quartz can be found all over the world, and was highly valued as a carving and jewelry stone. All packages are sent via USPS First Class Insured Mail unless another shipping option is chosen by the buyer.
