Thisis a cased unbranded large bent carved claw meerschaum pipe. Judging by the amber stem materialI estimate an approximate date of 1890-1900s for this pipe.

Thispipe is lightly smoked and in excellent condition.

Theexterior bowl is well carved with high relief and good detail. There are finer examples that are moredelicately carved, but this one is still fairly high quality. There are no chips or dings and just afew light scratches. The shankarea is just beginning to show some color. The chamber is straight and true with no loss or defects.

Thestem is amber with a round hole at the bit. It has some very minor tooth wear near the bit. It is in otherwise excellentcondition. This pipe came to mewith a broken bone tenon. Lackingthe correct tenon, I made a fix using a smaller size tenon and wrapping it inTeflon tape. It’s not a perfectfit, but the pipe is usable as is.Fitting it with the correct size bone screw tenon would make it reallyfine.

The case is in very good condition. The interior has a satin like materialon one side and white plush on the other.The plush is still fluffy and it has some slight discoloration from thetop of the bowl. The hinges aresolid and operable and the latch works.The case textured leather is in very good condition. It shows just a little wear at thesharp edges. The pipemeasures: 5\" from the bit tothe bowl leading edge x 2 1/8\" with a just over .75\" bore.
