Catholic Vintage Antique Old \"POOR SOULS CHAPLET
or \" Rosary For the Dead \" (with instruction leaflet)

Rare - includes copy of the original instruction leaflet describing how it is used
Good condition - had been in storage for many decades
Made in France - appears to be circa 1930\'s

This Rosary for the Dead isvery unique andcomes witha copy of theold leaflet that explains its use. The chaplet has large 6 and 8mm black wood beads and is 13 3/4\" in length.It has a Crucifix and a medal of Our Lady of Suffrage (Notre Dame du Suffrage) with the Holy Souls in Purgatoryon 1 side and the Heart of Mary on the other. The centerpiece medal has the Blessed Virgin Mary on 1 side andOur Lordon the other.

The leaflet explains:

\"This Rosary is just as it should be, because it is at once very short and very rich in indulgences for the dead. The person who recites it gains no less than twenty-three thousand three hundred days indulgences, which are attached to the prayers of which it consists, and are all applicable to the holy souls in Purgatory \".

\" St. Thomas declares that prayer for the dead is the most excellent of all kinds of prayer; and St. Francis de Sales teaches us that charity to the souls in Purgatory includes in itself all other kinds of charity...\".

The chapletappears to befrom about the 1930\'s, but it is in good condition.There is a bit of variation in the size of each bead which is common with rosaries from this era. Sadly, chaplets like these are no longer made. I was able to obtain several of these which have been in storage for many decades.The leaflet is a restored reproduction of the original.
