Notable Features:The bracelet was handmade during the Retro period of the Art Deco era.The look during this period was about expressing modernity and style - think flappers and Gatsby parties. Strong, geometric lines took off as did over-the-top sparkle and pizzazz. The generous use of beautiful stones in jewelry, like those found in this bracelet, was very popular during the Retro period, which saw the rise of the Hollywood Regency style. Eager to show off their wealth and style, Hollywood celebrities and socialites during this time would adorn themselves with glamorous jewelry, usually featuring large and beautiful stones. This bracelet was made in the style of Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, & Tiffany designs that were influencing the Hollywood Regency style, making the viewer think of the likes of Ava Gardner, and Katherine Hepburn.
This lovely necklace sports two different types of stones, the hues of which compliment each other perfectly. The main stones include nine Australian fire opal, for a cumulative 5.31 carats. Complete with a fiery play of colors including blues, greens, oranges, and reds, these lovely stones are cabochon cut and set into fancy gold prong settings. Because of its incredible color, Australian opal is frequently reserved for the richest of the rich, making this necklace a perfect example of the affluence of the Retro period of the Art Deco era. The bracelet also features links with round faceted cut rubies, measuring in at a cumulative 0.45 carats each. The cool, dark tones of the red rubies and the fiery warm hues of the opals are beautifully contrasted, especially when matched with the yellow gold composing the rest of the bracelet.
The bracelet itself is composed of 18k yellow gold and is separated into eighteen different sections, each link held together with a hinge. While the links supporting the Australian fire opals are a gold fancy prong set adorned with a rope twist accent, the links supporting the rubies are slightly different. Each link holding a ruby also has a lovely handcrafted leaf and flower motif on it, the ruby is the center of the flower. There is hand etched texture on the petals and leaves of the flowers which were made using the chasing technique. With a locking push-in clasp, this lovely bracelet is a perfect example of the glamour of the Hollywood Regency style. Don\'t miss your chance to own this glamorous piece of history.
Damage: Age appropriate wear. One opal is cracked in half but still secure in its setting. It can easily be replaced with another stone by your jeweler, or worn as is.

The Art Deco era is famous for being the \"Gatsby\" or \"Roaring Twenties\" era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. Jewelry from this period was most often crafted between 1920 and 1940. Art Deco jewelry sometimes featured white gold or platinum, geometric designs, European cut diamonds, filigree, and calibre cut stones that are specifically cut to fit the design of the piece. During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.
Retro jewelry refers to pieces created in the 1940s and 1950s. This was a period during which jewelry designers were largely influenced by the changes stemming from World War II. These designs reflect an infusion of futuristic vision with elements inspired by preceding periods, encompassing a variety of gemstones, shapes, and materials. Materials used commonly in Retro jewelry are gold, gold alloys, and silver as the wartime put a restriction on the use of platinum. Designs can be masculine, geometric and modern, or softer, more feminine and floral.
The Hollywood Regency style came into fashion during the 1930s, ushered along by the Golden Age of Hollywood. This style was heralded by bright, contrasting colors and a modernization of the opulence of Baroque styles, featuring a deliberately frivolous extravagance that screamed glitz and glamour. “Big girls need big diamonds” was taken to heart, and the gorgeous Hollywood stars decked themselves appropriately, with blindingly glittering jewels to showcase their lives of luxury.
Chasing is a metalworking technique that uses a nail-like tool and hammer to hand etch patterns onto a metal surface. This process creates a design that is sunk into the front of the surface using indentations, grooves, and channels. Chasing is thousands of years old and was very difficult and time-consuming technique that is still used by metalsmiths today.
Australian Opal was first discovered in the 1890s. Most opals at the time featured only 2-3 colors at most and were very opaque in hue. However, Australian Opals have a beautiful play of color that includes red, white, blue, green, and orange. This made it immediately coveted by the richest of the rich. In some cultures, opal symbolizes love and passion.
Rubies are one of the four precious gemstones and are prized for their pink to blood red colors. The most valued hue of ruby is called blood-red, or pigeon blood, for the bright, rich hue it exhibits. The color of a ruby comes from the element chromium. Rubies have adorned royal and religious jewelry for centuries and were especially esteemed in Asian countries like China and India, where they were thought to bring good fortune. Rubies are graded by color, clarity, cut, and carat. Rubies are often also evaluated based on their geographic origin.
