Notable Features: These lovely chandelier earrings were completely handmade by a talented jeweler during the Art Deco era. These stud earrings have rhodium plated clip backs, and can be worn by pierced and non-pierced ears alike. They feature an array of brightly sparkling colorless old Europeancut rhinestones arranged in three staggered tiers, which dangle from the beautiful marquise cut rhinestone that sits directly beneath the post. The tiers are layered on top of one another to create a glittering waterfall effect. The stones at the bottom of each dangling tier are encircled by bright rhodium plates rope twist rings, adding a beautiful white gold look to each level. These rings are echoed at the post of the earring, three bright rhodium plated rings surround three European cut rhinestones in a triangle formation, with an unadorned rhinestone sitting beneath the raised center. Dazzling and breathtaking, these chandelier earrings are the perfect accent for a fancy night out!

The History
This beautiful piece comes from the Art Deco era! The Art Deco era is famous for being the \"Gatsby\" or \"Roaring Twenties\" era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period.

During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.

The European cut was the last type of diamond to be cut completely by hand, and was the successor of the Mine cut diamond. The European cut was very popular between 1890 and 1940, and had a large table, and more facets than previous cuts, giving these stones a high sparkle. These diamonds are very rare today, as most were re-purposed, and cut into more modern shapes.

The origination of the name “rhinestone” comes from the Rhine River, which flows through the central and western portions of Europe. With a diamond-like appearance, this natural crystal was found commonly in the Rhine. The practice of mimicking diamonds evolved into altering glass with a variety of metal based materials. Over time, people such as the inventor Georg Friedrich Strass, mixed bismuth and thallium for more sparkle, and metal salts for more color. Sometimes layers of lead were added to the bottom of glass to transform their optical properties. Jewelry companies experimented by coating an entire gemstone with metal deposition (such as with vapor deposition or thin foil). Rhinestones continue to be a popular gem that is used and enjoyed in jewelry, costumes, and other apparel.
