Notable Features:This sterling silver charm pendant was completely handmade in Tibet during the Art Deco period. The pendant is quite petite, and is shaped like a little bell. The top and bottom of the bell are ringed with tiny granulated bead accents, adding some texture and detail to the piece, and there is a disc flower design accentuating the bale. The the top of the bale is a single granulated bead, which brings unity to the whole piece. Whimsical and lovely, this charm pendant would look fantastic strung on a chain to wear as a necklace, or as a charm for a bracelet.

Damage: Age appropriate wear. One side of the bottom of the bell has been bent out of shape from age and wear, but silver is malleable, and can easily be reshaped by your local jeweler if desired.

The History

This beautiful piece was made in the Art Deco Era! The Art Deco Era is famous for being the \"Gatsby\" or \"Roaring Twenties\" Era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period.

During the Art Deco Period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.

Chinese Export jewelry became popular during the late Victorian Period and lasted until the 1960\'s. In a lot of ways Chinese Export jewelry fashioned what we know of jewelry today. During these periods, Chinese Craftsmen, including Jewelers and Stone cutters, were considered by far the best in the world.

The rich and wealthy would have a piece custom ordered through their local jeweler whom was usually gifted at drawing a design to send off to contacts in China to craft and send back. As you can imagine, this was not cheap, that being said, these pieces are very rare and few have survived until today.

Tibetan jewelry and art is deeply symbolic. It is part of everyday life and is connected with religious beliefs and social status. Tibetan jewelry is quite beautiful, featuring large, simple designs with vibrant colors. The colors most used are bright red and blue. Tibetan silver and goldsmiths were so talented, with skills passed down through families from generation to generation, that their jewelers were believed to be one of the wonders of Medieval world! The jewelry is made from the highest-quality silver and often features turquoise, coral, lapis and amber gemstones. Tibetans believe that turquoise and coral have healing qualities and that gemstones can provide protection and help with enlightenment.
