Here is a beautiful HENRY CHENEY STRAIGHT CLAW HAMMER. Henry Cheney Hammer Co. was famous for the \"Cheney Nailer\" with more curved claws and a nail holding slot. This one is a more rare, No. 44 with bell face and straight claw 16 oz, hammer without the nail slot. Cheney called this a \"Finishing Hammer\". It measures 12 1/2\" overall with a 5 1/2\" head. With the handle, this hammer weighs approximately 1 1/4 lbs and feels good in the hand.
The original label is partially missing (See Pictures), but reads \"Henry Cheney Hammer Corp. Estab. 1836. This Hammer is Forged From Tool Steel And Is Guaranteed Against Defects. Little Falls New York U.S.A.\" The number 44 is stamped on the bottom of the handle. This hammer is in near pristine condition and appears to be unused, There is no rust, no pitting, no strike marks or dings, and no cracks. The handle is tight in the head. There is slight discoloration from age that could be polished out, if desired. We simply buffed it with steel wool and wiped it with a coat of wax. Otherwise it is as found.
