Antique Vintage Japanese Double Gourd Ikebana Root & Woven Bamboo Basket:

I believe this lovely basket is used in Japanese Ikebana flower arrangements, and is called a double gourd. It is woven from strips of bamboo, and is nestled into a holder made from root wood. There are a few small nails on the underside to secure the crossed roots. The whole construction is a rich smoky red brown, with the roots shaded slightly darker. Some of the varnish? coloring the roots is worn off showing the original wood tones. There is a separate container made from a bamboo section. It does have a hole in the bottom, and I\'m not certain if it was ever meant to hold water. Overall dimensions are estimates: 15 inches high by 10 inches deep by 12 inches long.
