Item Measurements:The top of the ring measures 0.50\" long by 0.75\" wide, including the visible width of the band.
Notable Features:This piece was handmade during the Art Nouveau era. Made out of solid rose gold, this ring features a signet with the letter \"W or M\" carved into the top of the ring. The ring opens up to reveal a piece of carved gold attached to a swivel setting. The carved gold piece extends out of its enclosure and showcases a scene of Jesus on one side and a scene of Mother Mary & Jesus on the other side. The ring also depicts initials carved on the inside of the opening that reads \"FN to MS\" in a cursive font. The ring also includes carved designs on both shoulders that add a beautiful style to the piece.
Damage: Age appropriate wear. The ring has a split shank at the bottom that needs to be repaired. It is a clean separation and should make for an easy repair. The ring can be worn as is.

This beautiful piece was made during a period called the Art Nouveau Era! This time was also called \"La Belle Epoque\" in French, which translates to \"A Beautiful Time.” This period was in existence from 1890-1914.
This was very true due to the gorgeous designs that came out of this period. The Art Nouveau period was famous for its flowing organic designs, flowing ladies, flowing floral designs, and regal designs.
In historical times, signet rings were often quite beautiful, but they were more than that - they had an important role in society. These rings were developed as an identification mark. Rather than signing their name on a document, people would use a signet ring to make their mark. The ring would be pressed into hot wax or soft clay, and would leave a distinctive impression that functioned as an official seal.
Used by rulers and religious leaders, a signet ring could be used to mark a document, a doorway, or even to seal a tomb. When someone saw the mark of the king, it proved authenticity. The seal could not be opened without damaging the identifying mark, making it difficult to tamper with.
